No, don’t worry, I feel the same way and I think that the coach is being heroized is ridiculous and unnecessary considering what he disregarded.
I said, in response to someone saying that Joe Paterno has done a lot of awesome things unrelated to football, that Joe Paterno has never done anything awesome on a societal or humanitarian level. He’s only contributed money to Penn State (the school he coaches) and helped raise money for a nice library. Sure, he was some guys’ father figure… a shitty one at that (who would want a dad that let kids get raped), but really? That’s not societal or humanitarian. It all still benefited Penn State and most of it was football-related.
I maintain that nothing he’s ever done will be as important as what he didn’t do when he should have.
